Calamus 28" X 35"
Calamus is a visual thunderclap—an image that radiates raw intensity and unrelenting intricacy. The figure’s hair explodes in sharp, blade-like strands reminiscent of the calamus plant, evoking both beauty and danger. The elongated beak is laced shut with unsettling precision, suggesting silence imposed or power held inward. Every inch of the drawing is alive with detail: the border writhes with textures, symbols, faces, and coiling forms. For some viewers, the piece is almost frightening—the energy is so concentrated, the gaze so direct, and the complexity is so overwhelming that feels like a confrontation with an ancient mystical relic. Calamus doesn’t ask to be liked; it dares to be reckoned with.
